variables - Video Project

I tend to daydream a lot, and usually, one of my favorite things to wonder about are numbers. For example, when I hike, after getting to the top of the mountain I behold the city under my feet and I start thinking: "Oh a lot of houses and apartments… Hmm how many windows exist in the world? How many light bulbs? How many people stood in the same place that I'm standing now? How many people make themselves these same kind of questions?" and that goes on and on.
Numbers surround us all the time and in almost every single thing. This video intends to lead the audience to numbers that often go unnoticed, and also, an analyze: for a lot of people, me and you, we are just numbers. We are our cell phone number, our house number, our account number, our license plate number and the list continues… I hope the video brings sensitivity in the way we treat each other. Sometimes we are treated as objects, or we treat others as objects . How sad is it, to summarize a life - your life or someone else's life - into a right amount of numbers. "Nowadays, the names no longer have meaning. What matters are the numbers: the account number, identity number, passport number. They matter." José Saramago We are not a variable (a letter that can be simply replaced by any number). We are variables (we have multiple choices, personalities etc). (I'm not sure if the pun I made makes sense translate into English) * variable - liable to change. variable - in elementary mathematics, an alphabetic character representing a number. |
