Create A Lie
Artist Statement
My three images that I created are my interpretation of creating a lie. In my images I chose to go with a sort of “unknown” theme. The unknown to me is what may or may not be outside of the human existence. It is a means of thinking deeper than you probably should. When you look at my images you will see what is obvious and then something will hit you that will make you think beyond what is there. I wanted these pieces to make you think about everything inside and outside of the picture.
My first image of the couple going through the doorway into the unknown is one I wanted the viewers to have to think deeply about. I wanted them to think things such as, “where are they going?”, “why are they going?, and “why am I thinking about where and why they are going wherever or whenever they are going?”.
My second image is of myself going up to the gates of heaven. I felt like this was a source of the unknown because I feel like it will give everyone who views it a different thought or message. Those who believe in heaven will see what is truly in the picture, and those who are non-believers will see the obvious “stairway to heaven” picture and then they will have their own personal experience based on their own thoughts about the unknown that follows death.
My third image shows two people waking on a dock off into the lake. The fading effect that is taking place was meant to show the two leaving. Where they are heading to is up to the viewer’s imagination based on what they see and what they feel when they see it. It leaves a source of mystery and wonder.
In my work I wanted to make the viewers decide what they see based on what is given to them. It was meant to hit home and relate to their life so they see an entirely different picture, or an entirely different meaning. To me the unknown is so powerful because it creates things within itself based on where your mind is willing to take it.
