Video Project

My video is titled "Open Your Eyes". It represents a new chapter in my life. Moving forward and letting go of the past, at least what I can. My decision to leave the work force at the age of forty-nine and go back to school was based on multiple factors. My waning ambition for my previous career is probably one of the main reasons for redirecting my new path in life. My passion for art is another reason. Those two forces along with several others have me looking at life in new and different ways. Creating this video gave me the opportunity to explore where I've been, where I'm going and what I want to really do.

'Open Your Eyes' speaks about looking beyond the pale for inspiration in all things. In the introduction, women shown with their hands extended out in a giving gesture, adorned with creative imagery, represents the mother of all creation. The addition of life elements(water, fire, earth and wind) to me are the ingredients for nature's design. In order to convey the idea that art exists all around us, utilizing visuals depicting the elements along with textures, patterns, accelerated and erratic motion, flowing water and Family, support the idea that life is art and is fleeting. The martial artist figure represents my inner force(good and bad, protector and enemy). I've always been able to see art in the world, but for whatever reason inhibited to act on those instincts. Using my "inner force" as a seque between video sequences is symbolic of my current transition in life.
