Sean's Logo

In order to create this logo, I tried to take an honest look in the mirror. I took it serious and asked myself who am I, what am I, where am I going and what do I want to do in life.
When I analyze myself I come up with two basic personas combined into one. On one hand I am very disciplined, regimented, tough as I need to be and determined. On the other hand, I am kind, have a big heart, love anything artistic or creative and at times a little lazy. So, I started thinking about my logo in familiar terms of Ying and Yang, glass half full, equal and opposites, etc.,
In addition to thinking about the duplicity of my persona, I also wanted my logo to take on some characteristics of what I may become. In lieu of using text I decided to use my initials SS and create a mirror image, which in an esoteric  way symbolizes the duality of my personality.
Being that I was born in the year of the snake I wanted to introduce that personality trait in my design. Utilizing the physical characteristic of the snake to help generate an idea about the southwest region of the U.S., i.e.., mountains, colors and the snake itself. All of which are themes which represent the southwest to some degree.
To me, the symbology behind Ying and Yang is perfect and I am aware and identify with some of those ideas both in the micro and macro. I wanted to introduce it's symbolism in my logo, hence the use of light and dark  separated by a void. Originally I had designed the logo within the confines of a rectangle. However, I thought the ellipse was more appropriate visually and pertained more to the philosophical idea behind the design.
