Creating A Lie
In the project “Creating A Lie” via photoshop, I contemplated what message I wanted to portray to my audience. I wanted my pictures to not only give off good energy but to show personality and allow the viewer to see beauty from a different point of view. My goal in this project was to show how beautiful people and organic surroundings can appeal to anybody, while still creating something that deceives the naked eye. The first picture shows a boy standing in front of a graffiti wall and dumpster with many vibrant colors. Look at the way he is standing, dull and emotionless. His expression is empty although he is forcing the slightest smile leaving you contemplating what he was thinking in this moment. I was inspired to make this picture because of the mystery both the person and the scene held.
The second picture is of a girl sitting in the forest peaceful and happy. I was really drawn to the irony of the girl and the background, the girl appears to be very peaceful yet the surroundings are dreary and dark. Once I combined the model with the scene there is now a sense of fantasy.
The third photo shows the same model from the second picture. It shows her in a field of flowers, though she is grey and everything around her is colorful. The color surrounding her symbolizes a lie that many people have in their own lives. No matter how perfect a persons life can seem on the outside they might not be happy and fulfilled on the inside. I wanted to have an example of symbolism in this shot. All photos were shot by myself utilizing some add-ins, I also personally know the models. Overall, in each photo I took the model and placed them in backgrounds that better represented their personalities and body language while at the same time developing a unique visual sensation.

Alison Sweet critique of Artist Statement:
Bold statements are items that are crucial to the artist statement and explain what is going on
Italics mean they should be deleted entirely
Normal text is text that may or may not need to be deleted but should maybe be re-written or re-thought.
