On November 29, I attended the 18th Annual Hidden Hills Artists Studio Tour. This show was a self-guided tour around Cave Creek, Carefree and North Scottsdale. This tour had around 50 local art studios and 180 artists to visit throughout the three areas. I decided to visit studios in north Scottsdale
As I arrived, there were white tents set up in the dirt. The studio was well attended; about 15 cars in the parking lot. My favorite artist was Joni Mitchell's "Reef Keeper". It was a sculpture made of stone and marble shaped into a conch shell body with a face on one side. I found this piece interesting because it was so well crafted with the smooth angles and precise detailing in the face.
Another one of my favorite pieces was created by one of the two hosts of the studio, Pat Stacy. This piece was considered an acrylic on wood painting. Stacy called it "Desert Jewel". I found the andles in the painting created a sense of dimension and I also appreciated the shades of peach and tan that was created throughout the canvas.
Overall, my experience at the Hideaway Studio in celebration of the 18th Annual Hidden in the Hills Artists Studio Tour was very interesting. I found it festive to hold the studio outside to engage with the great weather and our natural landscape. I am not usually one for art work and going to galleries but this one was actually pretty interesting and caught my attention.
