I have chosen Erik Johansson, photographer and re-touch artist for my examples of "Creating A Lie". Erik has been featured on TED, discussing his inspiration for making the unbelievable and impossible a digital reality. Previously a student of drawing, passion was sparked at age 15 when he received his first digital camera, and Erik decided to make his interest in drawing meet with his new found love of the photographic arts.
The idea is to bring the viewer to a pause, to cause a brief moment of doubt which would transition into an appreciation and a good bit of humor for the idea he has created. These are ideas in fact, not scenes, as each one would be impossible in reality. The photographs included as examples, such as "A Painting Too Real" and "Swedish Air House" both delve into the realm of conceptual photography. In my opinion, "A Painting Too Real" brings to light the idea that our favorite paintings or images, those we save space for on the walls of our homes, could have much more of a presence than just a flat image on a wall, but to bring us to a location we have yet to experience. "Swedish Air House" to me feels more whimsical, a small floating farm house in Sweden maybe full of fresh Swiss air, or just a norm we are not aware of in their native countryside. These are just a few of the many photographic works he has in his portfolio, all of which are worth taking a look at.
