Roden Crater is in neat the Grand Canyon in Arizona. This is an old volcanic cinder cone that is roughly 400,000 years old and has been in the process of being created as a beautiful monument for the past thirty years by Turrell himself. He has always had a fascination with light and making his art interactive to his audience.He believes that art should force a spiritual awakening, and should make you think within yourself of what you are viewing and looking at. One example of his art is timing a specific moon phase that comes ever 18.6 years and being able to view it from the cosmic monument he is creating which will allow all visitors to experience the celestial universe.
